Career Prospects:

During the last year, the world has seen many firsts and not all of them were pleasant. Infact we may had have the worst year of the century already. The words “ New Normal “ are floating around and the career graph of most working-class professionals has taken interesting turns. Due to the current pandemic / post pandemic scenario, career choices are witnessing a new normal shift towards more sustainable options. This trend has trickled down to the academic level as well. Now the question is “ How does Civil Engineering fit into this “ New Normal”.
The pandemic has made a mess of the economies around the world. Every country is either reeling under recession or looking forward to a negligible GDP growth. People are losing jobs in every vertical. Now, to boost the economy as well as employment, one viable option for every government is to increase spending on infrastructure. Infrastructure means multimillion dollar projects like expressways, dedicated railway systems, extension or new metro railways. These are all profitable for the governments as well as serve the immediate purpose of growth and employment. Most third world economies have adopted this model as this is sustainable in the long run. In regards to our country, it has followed this same line of action, and has approved more than 2 lac crores of projects in the last year and most of them have already commenced execution.
