The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), formerly known as the West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT), and NAAC both certify the Calcutta Institute of Engineering and Management (CIEM), one of the top self-financing private engineering colleges. The Institute is the realization of a project that was nurtured by a group of social workers under the direction of the late Prasanta Sur, a former West Bengal cabinet minister and mayor of the Calcutta Corporation. In keeping with the national perspective on technical education, CIEM has prioritized academic and administrative discipline in order to enhance the caliber of teaching-learning, governance, delivery systems, and associated issues.
